Event Description
(provided by race organizer)Now in it’s third year year, the Island Triathlon Festival to be held from Friday 23 to Sunday 4 Feb at Stockton will build on it’s hugely successful 2022. With a seemingly insatiable appetite for multisport events, the sports community in the Hunter is in for a treat this weekend, with the Friday Twilight Fun Run, Saturday Aquathlon (Swim/Run) and Sunday’s Standard, Sprint Triathlon and Aquabike and Oceania Paratriathlon. The event will take place from the eastern side of Griffith Park on the Stockton Foreshore.
Just a 5-minute Ferry ride across the harbour the Island Triathlon offers a great harbour swim, flat cycle and run course and a sports mad residential community at Stockton ready to support an event in their backyard. Working with the Stockton Surf Life Saving Club and local community groups, organisers H Events, feel the classic beachside township’s character and personality will quickly build the new events profile.
Thanks to the generosity of the City of Newcastle the 3-day festival features the City of Newcastle Oceania Paratriathlon, a Standard/Olympic and Sprint distance Triathlon, evening Fun Run and a World ITU Age Group qualifier Aquathlon (swim/run). Current local World Champion and Paralympic Silver Medallist, Lauren Parker is ready to defend her Newcastle Paratriathlon title for the 6th year. There are athletes from every state and New Zealand. The event will also see many athletes chasing the $1000 first prize in the Standard Triathlon.
The 6 Hunter Triathlon Clubs of Tomaree, Maitland, Singleton, Scone and Lake Macquarie are keen to be racing near home in Stockton, which is already the home of Newcastle Triathlon Club. Stakeholders in the event will be stepping up to make sure that both elite and novice able bodied triathletes and visiting paratriathetes are catered for. Staged on the Stockton Harbour Foreshore and a cycle loop of the town peninsular, the course has an outstanding vista on every inch of this course. Organisers look forward to welcome athletes to Stockton near Newcastle on the 2-5 Feb.
