Athlete History

On Aquabike.World you can now find history charts for every athlete who competed in at least two aquabike races. You’ll find it at the athlete’s profile page, where you can find the tab called “History”. If you click on it you will see that there are two sub-sections, the Ranking History and the Performance History.

Athlete Profile History

Ranking History

This shows the ranking of the athlete in the Aquabike.World Ranking since it was introduced in 2022 – or from the first year in which the athlete competed in an aquabike race. Here is an example how it looks like:

Aquabike.World Ranking History Chart

Sidenote: Some of you might remember that in 2022 the ranking started as a “European Ranking”. However, when we launched the world ranking in 2023, we did a back-calculation for the world ranking for the time before. So what you see here for 2022 is indeed the back-calculated world ranking, although it used to be a European ranking at that time.

The line you see in the chart shows the ranking of the athlete over time. If you move the cursor over the line you can see the exact ranking of the athlete for a specific time.

By default, you see the position in the men’s or women’s ranking, but with the links above the chart you can also switch to the overall ranking, the ranking in the athlete’s age group and the ranking amongst athletes of the same country.

The dots you see in the chart are the races which the athlete finished. The colours of the dots are for the race distance which go from yellow for sprint distance to dark red for long distance races. The vertical position of the dots mark the position of the athlete in the race, though on mouseover it also shows the race and the athlete’s position and you can also click on it to get directly to the race result.

Performance History

With the Performance History you can see how the athlete’s Performance Score developed over time, but also how it compares to other athletes of his gender, age group or country.

The first thing you get to see is three lines that show the athlete’s swim (blue), bike (green) and overall (orange) performance over time.

Athlete Performance History

You might notice that the Performance History chart starts 2021 – so one year earlier than the ranking history. This is simply because we have records of all race results from 2021, which means that the ranking starts in 2022 with all results from one whole racing season.

With the dropdown menu above the chart you can compare the athlete’s performance to the average or top performers of his gender or his age group or his your country.

For example, if you select “Agegroup total” you see the orange line marking the athlete’s overall performance. The lighter area at the bottom marks the average performance of his age group while the slightly darker area marks the performance of the top 10% of the age group. So basically if the line is above that area means that the athlete is within the top 10% of his age group.

Total Performance History compared to Age Group    Swim Performance compared to male athletes of the same Country    Bike Performance compared to all men

Other examples you find in the screenshots above are the swim performance compared to all athletes (of the same gender) of his country and the bike performance compared to all athletes of his gender.

Why is there no history for some athletes?
For an athlete to have an athlete history displayed, he must have finished at least two aquabike races since 2021. Therefore an athlete who has only finished one aquabike race in the time period, you won’t see a history displayed.

Why is there no age group or country comparison for some athletes?
To get reliable data for the average performance of a specific group, this group must have a certain minimum size. There are some countries which only have a very little number of aquabike athletes. And also not all of the youngest and oldest age groups have enough athletes to calculate a useful average value.
